Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

San Francisco is full of extraordinary people doing meaningful work every day, and one of the best ways to feel more connected to the city is to give your time to it.

San Francisco has a problem. We do not have a site dedicated to finding volunteer work and being able to support our local communities that I've found easy to find. So I've generated a list that will turn into a website that's more accessible. If we're lucky, opportunities are directly on the site or on eventbrite or funcheap.com.

Whether you are hoping to spend time outdoors, support children and families, help care for animals, work with food insecurity, support the arts, or simply meet other kind and community-minded people, there are so many beautiful places to volunteer across San Francisco.

Neighborhood & Community Support

  • Russian Hill Neighbors — Support neighborhood connection through local events, community initiatives, and civic engagement while helping preserve the charm and vibrancy of Russian Hill.

  • NEXTVillageSF — Support older adults in aging independently through social connection, volunteer assistance, and community programs that foster belonging and care.

  • Community Streets San Francisco — Wiggle Fest — Support joyful, car-free community spaces by assisting with event setup, volunteer coordination, and breakdown while helping create safe, playful streets for all ages.

  • Civic Joy Fund — Support uplifting neighborhood initiatives that bring people together through acts of care, beautification, and community-driven programming across San Francisco.

  • North Beach Neighbors — Support local neighborhood connection, advocacy, and community events that help keep North Beach vibrant, welcoming, and engaged.

  • North Beach Business Association — Support a thriving North Beach by helping champion local businesses, neighborhood events, and community partnerships that strengthen the district.

  • SF Public Works — Support city beautification and neighborhood cleanup efforts that help maintain safe, clean, and welcoming public spaces for all.

  • GLIDE — Volunteer with meal service, family programs, community outreach, and support services in the Tenderloin.

  • Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly — Visit, call, and support older adults experiencing loneliness and isolation.

  • Project Open Hand — Help prepare and deliver meals for seniors and people living with serious illness.
